What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy or CST, is a gentle hands-on alternative therapy that helps you improve your health and wellness by balancing and enhancing the function of the physiological system surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which is known as the CranioSacral System.

Craniosacral System
The CranioSacral System consists primarily of the membrane system(meningeal membranes), the enclosed fluid (CerebroSpinal Fluid – CSF), the structures that pump the CSF throughout these membranes.
The membrane system surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord that lies within the spine. (CSF) flows through the membranes and carries vital nutrients that nourish the central nervous system, it also lubricates between the membrane layers to allow gliding while the spine bends and twists. At the same time, CSF acts as a shock absorber for the brain and spinal cord and protects it from trauma and injury.

Within the system, the CSF rhythmically pulses at a rate of about six to ten cycles per minute. This is independent of heart or respiratory rhythms. Dr. William Garner Sutherland’s research indicates that the skull bones must be slightly moving continuously to accommodate the rhythmic fluid pressure changes within the system. The craniosacral system extends from the cranium (skull, head, and face) down to the sacrum (area of the tailbone), hence its name.
Since this vital system influences the development and performance of the brain and spinal cord, so it provides and maintains the proper conditions for the growth, development and functioning of your Central Nervous System. Any imbalance or restriction within it has an adverse affect on your overall state of health and wellness.

Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy does not cure the problems itself; rather, it facilitates, encourages, and thereby elicits the body’s own innate healing mechanisms to act accordingly. The objective of Craniosacral therapy is to find areas of restriction that compromise function. Once the restriction has been determined, CST frees up restrictions in related soft tissue, bones, and joints and encourages the proper pumping and flow of CST to keep the rhythm steady and optimal, and hence facilitating the body self-correction power, thus relieving stress, decreasing pain, and enhancing overall health in the central nervous system. It is very safe and effective.

What are the benefits of CST?

CranioSacral therapy reestablishes the normal rhythm and flow within the craniosacral system. Because the craniosacral system affects on the functioning of the central nervous system, craniosacral therapy improves functioning of many systems of the body, including the nervous system, the endocrine system and the digestive system. CST has emotional benefits as it relieves constricted areas along the membranes of the systems that hold emotional trauma. It helps to reclaim, restore, maintain and improve our health and wellness so that we are more capable of enjoying our lives. For those whose problems haven’t helped by many other approaches, may found CST a safe and effective therapy.
